How to transfer files without installing an app on either device
Sometimes installing something is not an option. A work laptop you cannot add software to. A borrowed phone. A one-off transfer that does not deserve an account, a password and two updates a month for the rest of its life.
The browser on both devices is already a capable piece of software, and it is already up to date. This guide shows how to move files between any two devices using nothing but that.

What installing an app actually asks of you
An app is a reasonable trade when you transfer files every day. For the transfer you will make once this month, the price is out of proportion.

The last one is the wall people hit most often. A managed laptop will refuse the install outright, and no amount of willingness on your part changes that. A web page needs no permission to be visited.
Why the browser can do this
The capability is already installed
A modern browser can open a direct connection to another browser and encrypt what goes across it. That is not a workaround; it is a standard part of the platform, the same machinery video calls run on.
So the transfer needs four things, all of which a current browser already has: a direct data connection between two browsers, the cryptography to agree a key and encrypt with it, the ability to run the page's code, and a way to save what arrives.
Nothing is written to either device except the file you asked for. Close the page and the session is gone.
Because this is a web page rather than installed software, you do have to trust the code the site delivers each time you load it — a real difference from an app you audited once. The security architecture states that limitation plainly instead of skipping past it.
The method
Four steps, on any two devices

Open poftim.app in the browser on both devices
Any current browser will do: Safari, Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave or Opera. Type the address; do not search for it. A square code appears on the first device immediately.

Connect the second device
If it has a camera and the two are together, point it at the code and the page opens by itself. If not — a desktop with no webcam, or two devices in different places — press Share connection on the first device and send the one-time link instead.

Compare the phrase
Both screens show the same short phrase. Confirm that they match before continuing. That check is what tells you the connection reached the device you meant rather than someone else's.

Send, save, and close the page
Either device can send. When you are finished, closing the page ends the connection for both. There is no account to sign out of, no history to clear and no app left over.
On a managed or borrowed device
What to know before you use somebody else's computer
A browser you do not own is a browser you should assume keeps something. Two habits make that harmless.
First, use a private or incognito window. The transfer itself works normally in one, and the browser discards what it held when the window closes. Do finish the transfer and save your files before closing it, though — treat the window as a one-off rather than something to come back to.
Second, remember that saving a file puts it on that device. That is the point of the exercise if the borrowed machine is the destination, and a mistake if it is only a stepping stone. Delete it from the downloads folder before you hand the laptop back.
If a corporate network blocks the direct connection, the encrypted relay is tried automatically and usually gets through. A network that blocks both cannot be worked around from inside a web page, and the page will say so rather than hanging.

The things people check first
Do I need an account to send files?
No. Sending needs nothing but the page. An account exists only for the optional paid feature that lets your own devices remember each other, and it is not involved in an ordinary transfer.
Is there an app if I want one?
You can add the page to your home screen, which makes it open like an app and start faster. It is the same tool either way, with the same code, and adding it installs nothing beyond a shortcut.
Does the receiving device need a camera?
Only if you pair by scanning, and only one of the two devices needs one. A desktop with no webcam joins perfectly well through a shared connection link.
Will this work inside an app's built-in browser?
Often, but not reliably. Opening a link inside a messaging or social app loads a stripped-down browser view, and some of those withhold capabilities the transfer needs. If a connection will not build from a link somebody sent you, use that view's menu to open the link in your normal browser.
What is left on the devices afterwards?
The files you chose to save, and nothing else. The session is single-use, expires on its own, and is not remembered by either device or by the service.
